It was featured in 1987's "The Secret of My Success" with Michael J. Fox; the soon-to-be-released "New Year's Eve" with Michelle Pfieffer, and today there is filming for "The Avengers" with Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and more (the actors weren't actually there).
We often will see "Law and Order" being filmed and it's rare that a week goes by without seeing some evidence of a movie or other filming. The filming and parking permits are always conspicuously displayed so you can always see the project name - sometimes it's real and sometimes it's a fake. For example, the project name listed on the permits for "The Avengers" is "Group Hug". Someone's got a sense of humor.

Hi Y'all,
Doesn't all that filming create the same kind of chaos getting around the area in timely manner as road construction or a traffic accident?
Y'all come by now,

Funny how some things are in so much demand! You'd think people would get tired of the same generic building in all the movie backgrounds. It must be pretty cool to watch all the activity, though!
I think the reason it gets used a lot is actually the lack of traffic around it. Because of where it is (just south of Grand Central on Park Ave the Park Ave traffic is going by it above on the overpass and 40th street isnt that busy.
For all you Comic geeks, that's a crashed Simjet....
Hmm, I just clicked on the link in my RSS feed to go to your blog to comment on your holiday post and I can't get there!
Anyway, it looks like a fantastic place for a holiday and Bella did really well out in the wop wops for a city girl:) I can imagine the quiet would take some getting used to.
Love the retro interior:)
